A new campus life experience for Contra Costa College! The College Center is a project aimed at recruiting and retaining students by providing a cultural and social center for the campus. The new campus center replaces the original introverted center by creating a flexible, light-filled, transparent facility which conveys to students the many programs and services that the college offers. Both exterior and interior spaces are designed to promote fun, to socialize and to establish traditions that will define the institution and its aspirations.
The New College Center is a complex that is comprised of student activities, student club rooms, game areas, food services, Culinary Arts, convenience/bookstore, Administration, Fireside conference area and a 3 story Classroom Building. Nestled between the buildings are a series of different sized outdoor spaces that are designed to engage students in various ways. Central to the quad area is the “free speech corner” a tradition continued by the CCC student government. Adjacent to the Fireside Hall is a casual Amphitheater where students will be able to listen to concerts, speeches etc. while watching the campus population parade by. To allow students to unwind and engage with nature, the transverse campus creek will have various spots for students to sit and commune with nature (trees, birds, creek). The Classroom Building is a three level building containing classrooms, faculty offices and a 200 seat lecture facility, is supplemented with varied sized spaces for students to congregate between classes and reflect on views of the upper San Francisco Bay.
