Glendale Unified School District Replacement Building Projects at Lincoln Elementary School, John C. Fremont Elementary School and La Crescenta Elementary School have received DSA approval and placed on OPSC’s approved funding list which will go before the SAB at the July board meeting. This was a monumental task for tBP/Architecture and a risk for GUSD. Working together, our total team achieved success!
The Overcrowding Relief Grant (ORG) funds are for campuses that have high student population with many portables on site. These funds are to build new permanent classrooms and remove the old portable buildings. In order to meet the funding deadline of July 31, 2012, tBP/Architecture was assigned the task of taking an already DSA approved classroom building from tBP’s archives and adjusting the design to conform within the existing school site and campus context. This approach greatly reduced the programming and schematic phases allowing our team to jump directly into DD’s and CD’s. This process worked exceptionally well meeting the very tight submittal timelines for funding. Our starting date was mid-November 2011 with a submittal to DSA by January 12, 2012, allowing DSA ample time for the bin period, review, comment, review and stamp a completed set of construction documents no later than July 1, 2012.
