August 4, 2015 – Glendale USD administrators, board members, faculty, plus parents, students and community members, celebrated the opening of the new College View School with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 4th, 2015. College View School, designed by tBP/Architecture, is a unique school run by Glendale USD and dedicated solely for student 3 years to 22 years in age with extreme special needs. Through an extensive planning process the focus remained on the needs and development of the students and providing a safe and inspirational place to learn for students, faculty, and the community.
The school’s design integrates 3 programmatic functions: The school for children with special needs called College View (CV), the Special Programs School and the Medical Therapy Unit (MTU) which serves CV students as well as students from the region. Designed to High Performance Incentives (HPI) guidelines, unique sustainable features include Photovoltaic panels, solar thermal panel pool water heating, use of low embodied energy or recycled materials, controlled natural lighting, HVAC systems with management controls and insulated glazing with protective sun-shading devices and wind power if the current study proves it viable.
