January 15, 2016 – The Mt. San Antonio College Child Development Center has received LEED Certification, becoming part of a select group of innovative buildings that have demonstrated their commitment to sustainability. This innovative teaching, learning and childcare facility provides early education, hands-on training as well as childcare programs for up to 162 children in a nurturing and stimulating environment. The Center is designed as a multi-building village which merges with the site in order to provide the residential scale and natural environment. The four buildings house the Center Administration and Food Service, Instructional Program and Administration, and Facilities for Infants, Toddlers and Pre-Schoolers.
The buildings were designed with an emphasis on natural daylight and nontoxic, organic materials. The play yards use materials indigenous to the area highlighted with water, plant, and rock features. Careful site orientation resulted in optimized solar orientation and shaded and wind screened outdoor spaces.
