November 14, 2018 – West Valley College’s Jean & E. Floyd Kvamme Planetarium construction is complete. This state of the 3,600 ft facility includes a 84-Seat Planetarium and Exhibit Space dedicated to educating and inspiring future generations. The facility includes a unique Planetarium Theater, Exhibition Hall, Console Area/Main Desk, Ticket Kiosk, Exit Vestibule, Light-lock Vestibule, as well as storage.
Upon entering, visitors will greeted at the welcome desk and introduced to the awe and wonder of the interactive exhibit hall. The hall will include both rotating astronomy exhibits and permanent displays such as a Foucault Pendulum and a Meridian Line Projector. Further exploration will lead to the heart of the planetarium, a uniquely suspended, 41’ diameter domed theater. There, visitors can recline comfortably in canted seats to immerse themselves in the wonders of the Universe. Images will be produced both by a state of the art digital projector and secondary optical projectors. This facility is designed be multipurpose for college coursework, K-12 field trips and multimedia immersive performances.
