The design is based upon a philosophy establishing a defined progression of exposure to worship in order to “prepare oneself for communication with the Lord”. The progressive sequence begins at the promenade, seen as a mixing/social space. Then “on axis”, the parishioner enters the church and proceeds by the baptistery. Next he moves from a low compressed space into an expanding space where all attention is focused on the altar. Directly behind the altar is a skylight and backlit stained glass screen which helps to draw attention to the altar.
