The recently completed West Valley College Student Services Center provides a clear community entrance gateway to a traditional insular campus and was officially certified LEED GOLD by the U.S. Green Building Council.  The LEED GOLD strategy incorporates stormwater catchment and treatment through the use of bioswales and native landscaping. Vegetation and gradual sloping of the ground aid in stormwater capture and is beneficial to recharging groundwater. With proper maintenance, these exterior design elements are also an effective way to prevent erosion and pollution.

Vertical window fins and other sun shading devices allow comfortable levels of sunlight to flow into the building while adding visual interest to the building’s exterior. The building also features high-efficiency mechanical systems and recycled materials throughout the design and furnishings. The architecture is distinctive while still reflecting the naturalistic materials of the campus architecture.
