Simi Valley High School (SVHS) seeks to migrate from the “school within a school” campus model established in the 1960’s and organize the campus by disciplines to facilitate 21st century learning strategies. With an understanding of district goals and a compilation of SVHS administration and staff facility requests,
tBP/Architecture developed an inclusive master plan to transform the aging facilities, improve the campus site, and enhance the overall learning environment.
Particular focus was placed on recreating the central quad, replacing all portables with permanent buildings, and creating energized spaces for collaborative work and study. New building recommendations included a new classroom building, counseling building, student union, STEM complex, and gymnasium along with shade structures and other support spaces. The proposed library modernization brings technology and innovation labs to currently underutilized spaces. Other campus improvement opportunities are a modernized Career Technology Maker Space, reconditioned play fields, and updated athletics support spaces.
